I heartily welcome you to the Department of Data and Information Science, which is the flagship of Information Science in Nigeria. The department, which started as a Centre (Africa Regional Centre for Information Science (ARCIS) in 1990 has produced over 1000 graduates at Master, M.Phil. and Ph.D. levels in Information Science and Information Resources Management. Our graduates work in various organisations in Nigeria, African countries and developed countries.    

The department has been helping the University of Ibadan to fulfil her vision which is to be a world-class institution for academic excellence geared towards meeting societal needs and her mission which are to expand the frontiers of knowledge through the provision of excellent conditions for learning and research; produce graduates who are worthy in character and sound judgement;  contribute to the transformation of society through creativity and innovation; and serve as a dynamic custodian of society's salutary values and thus sustain its integrity.

The department is devoted to contributing to humanity through the enhancement of teaching, research, and community service, the promotion of collaborative scholarship, and the pursuit of innovative intellectual exploration.
